Isabel Santos
Education: Medical degree from the Rio de Janeiro State University (1977); Master's degree in Science (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1981); PhD in Internal Medicine from the University of São Paulo (1992).
Professional Experience: Assistant Professor of Immunology at the Medical School at Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo from 2011 until present; senior scientist at the Brazilian Enterprise for Agricultural Research (Embrapa) from 1994 until 2011; Visiting Scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health from 1995 until 1997; Investigator at the Tropical Medicine Institute of Manaus from 1982 until 1985.
Research interests in Immunology, mainly on the following topics: development of vaccines against the cattle and dog ticks; functional genomics and proteomics of tick salivary glands, the immunobiology of tick infestations; genetic susceptibility to infectious and parasitic diseases; the immunobiology of Leishmania infantum infections in humans, in particular the role of antibodies in protective immunity against this pathogen.
