Network Vision

The Vision of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network

A multidisciplinary and inter-connected vaccinology research and development community which successfully addresses the challenges impeding vaccine discovery, evaluation and delivery and that will provide impact for control of priority livestock and zoonotic diseases in low-and-middle income countries (LMICs).

Aim

To establish a network of UK and LMIC-based researchers that could form collaborations to address the challenges that are impeding vaccine development for major livestock and zoonotic diseases affecting agriculture in LMICs. This includeall species that are of agricultural significance in LMICs including (but not limited to) poultry, aquaculture, ruminants and swine with an emphasis on molecular and cellular biology work relevant to vaccine development. Key aims of the Network are to bring together partners from academia, industry and other sectors.

Objectives

The objectives of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network are:

1 – establish an interactive and multi-disciplinary Network to facilitate dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ‘state-of-the-art’ technology between members of the veterinary (and human) vaccinology communities.

2 – through this organisation, identify and fund collaborative teams with complementary expertise that through application of novel approaches can effectively address critical ‘bottle-necks’ in vaccine development for LMIC-relevant pathogens.

3 – through resolution of these obstacles advance the development of veterinary vaccines for LMIC-relevant diseases

4 – provide the scientific and logistical support for members to secure substantive funding  to expand on the preliminary data generated by pump-priming funding.

5 - engage with a variety of industry partners, in both developed and LMIC countries, to ensure the sustainable delivery of effective vaccines
