Online Training Courses
It is widely recognised that challenges faced by early career researchers in low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) include a lack of resources, reduced access to training opportunities compared with early career researchers in high-income countries, and a lack of funding for research projects. These challenges were highlighted in the IVVN’s 2020 members' survey, with many IVVN members based in LMICs saying they would benefit from training courses run by the Network. With in-person training courses not possible because of Covid-19, the need for online training is even more pressing.
The IVVN were recently awarded funding from the University of Edinburgh's annual Scottish Funding Council Global Challenges Research Fund allocation to host a series of online training courses specifically for early career researchers in LMICs.
Courses (detailed in the boxes below) cover a range of scientific and soft skills and places on each course are available by competitive application to the IVVN. Applicants can select up to three courses that they wish to attend and will be asked to indicate their preferred course. There are limited spaces on each course so we envisage that successful applicants will be allocated a place on one course only, to ensure as many researchers can access the courses as possible.
Applicants should be early career researchers (PhD students and postdocs) from an LMIC country and working at a LMIC based research organisation (all countries listed here are eligible to apply). Applicants should also be members of the IVVN - please sign up for free IVVN membership here.
Places on all of the online training courses have now been allocated.
