Biography

Abdul-Hamid is a PhD Research Fellow at Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania) under the Wellcome Trust funded Afrique One-African Science Partnership for Intervention Research Excellence (ASPIRE). His main research focus is on the development and field trial of novel diagnostic tests for brucellosis in humans and animal populations, particularly in sub-Saharan African pastoralist communities. Abdul-Hamid has previously worked with the ZELS and Bacterial Zoonoses consortia looking into non-malarial causes of fever in African communities. Previous research areas in neglected infectious tropical diseases span bacterial, parasitic and arthropod-borne viral zoonoses, with a focus on One Health intervention approaches. He is a research affiliate of the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (Tanzania) and the University of Glasgow. His training background is in Clinical Biochemistry from Makerere University (Uganda) and Medical Parasitology from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (Tanzania), where he also holds an academic position. He currently lives and works in northern Tanzania.
