Biography
Dr. Mahmoud Abdelaziz Mabrouk is an Assistant Professor of Aquatic Animal Medicine at Suez Canal University, Egypt, and also holds a full-time position as an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at King Salman International University, Egypt. Renowned for his expertise in aquatic microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and proteomics, he has authored more than 48 publications in high-impact international journals. During his tenure as a senior postdoctoral researcher at the Fish infectious Research unit, Department of Microbiology, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (2018–2022), Dr. Mabrouk made significant contributions to the field through innovative research. He earned his Ph.D. in Aquatic Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Porto, Portugal (2013–2016), where he distinguished himself with pioneering work on host-pathogen interactions. Dr. Mabrouk's research is primarily centered on the development of cutting-edge diagnostic tools, including PCR, qPCR, and RPA-LFD isothermal amplification, designed for the rapid and precise detection of pathogens, particularly in aquatic species. His investigations extend to understanding multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains affecting animal hosts, addressing their public health implications. Furthermore, his studies emphasize sustainable and eco-friendly approaches for disease control, exploring natural remedies such as herbal extracts, prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics. His recent work delves into host pathogen dynamics, particularly examining the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity to counteract bacterial infections. Dr. Mabrouk actively contributes to various global initiatives. He serves as an Academic Peerlist member at Airlangga University, participating in the annual QS Global Academic Survey, and is a GBD Collaborator with the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) Network at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington, USA. Additionally, he is a certified entrepreneurship trainer through the USAID Egyptian Pioneers scholarship program (2024). Currently He has listed in the Stanford University (California, USA) Ranking of the World Scientists: "World's Top 2% Scientists. As a seasoned reviewer and editor, Dr. Mabrouk has reviewed over 120 manuscripts and edited more than 75 publications. He has recently published his findings in prestigious journals such as The Lancet, Lancet Public Health, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet Neurology. He serves as an Academic Editor for Scientific Report, PLOS ONE, BMC Microbiology, BMC Research Notes (Springer Nature), and the Journal of Marine Science (Hindawi Group). Additionally, he holds editorial roles with journals such as Frontiers in Bioscience, Frontier in Aquaculture, Frontier in Bacteriology, and Frontiers in Microbiology. Dr. Mabrouk is a Global Outreach-Contributing Member of the American Society for Microbiology, a full member of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Organization and BactiVac Network at the University of Birmingham, and a member of the Microbiology Society and the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. His diverse contributions to research, innovation, and academic service reflect his dedication to advancing science and addressing pressing global challenges.
