B.Sc. with honors in Microbiology - University of Georgia (USA)

M.S. in Medical Microbiology / Molecular Biology - University of Georgia (USA)

Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology / Molecular Biology - University of Georgia (USA)

Previously employed as a research scientist / project leader at Merial Animal Health Limited (USA) - Development of bacterial, viral, and recombinant antigens for production animal vaccines; Preparation of research protocols and SOPs for antigen characterisation and vaccine efficacy studies; Development / optimisation of antigen detection assays; Challenge model development / optimisation; Field and laboratory animal studies (cattle & lab animals); Management of laboratory personnel and resources; Data reporting, license application preparation.

Currently employed as a research scientist at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (UK) - Assisting and initiating research and development of molecular and immunological methods to further investigate the epidemiology and pathogenesis of veterinary RNA viruses; Managing the workgroup's containment laboratory facilities as containment building officer; Perform the duties of local safety advisor, and deputy safety officer for the department.

 

Research interests

Research and development into the pathogenesis, immunology and epidemiology of veterinary viruses, with a particular interest in porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses, retroviruses, and other viruses infecting pigs.
