Patching, house keeping and updating information systems

I have been doing infrastructure and systems maintenance for over 7 years. I have written several backup and restoration scripts especially for ITS, Dspace, Muele, Libis I have also worked with the database unit to create mirrors and effective and efficient backup strategies using NETAPP. Done a lot of house cleaning jobs for several systems in Makerere University Done patching successful and updates for Solaris, blackboard, dspace, Linux (Slackware, Ubuntu, red hat (fedora core), suse) for several years. Gone as far as kernel editing and source code editing to achieve unit objectives. Keep reading about application development and release information form developer sites and forums to watch trends in development and effect changes best of user reviews and recommendation while following all change management and control rules in software development. Attends conferences and workshops whenever funds are available to learn from others whiles creating a platform for solutions to some of the persistent problems in different information systems.

Keep up-to-date with applications and services relevant to ILRI’s research activities.

Manage the installation, configuration and maintenance of scientific applications

Take the lead in establishing and maintaining secure and robust systems to support research data storage, processing, display and distribution.

Security and disaster recovery

I have developed varsity knowledge at ICT auditing and creation of secure information systems architecture based on current security trends in the ICT sector. Used this to increase security of our websites and information Systems. I have contributed to several policies on ICT security for the university as well as policies on disaster recovery, continuity and contingency planning.

Communicate with researchers concerning updates, opportunities, requirements and changes made to the research computing systems.

Change management and end-user support

I have developed a lot of customer care by working and troubleshooting user centered information systems. It was a challenge but with a lot of Develop more effective ways of using and configuring applications and make them available for use across the ILRI campuses.
