Biography

Professional Objective:

To contribute to securing animal and human health against vector-borne diseases in Tanzania by conducting research that contributes to the knowledge of vectors and their ecology for sustainable management of disease vector of livestock and human.

Esther G. Kimaro graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2003 at the Sokoine University of Agriculture. She worked as a veterinary tutor at Tengeru Livestock Training Institute for five years, after completing her Masters she moved to Tropical Pesticides Research Institute and started working in the division of Livestock and Human Disease Vectors Control as a Research Officer carrying out research in livestock vectors. After completing her PhD at the University of Sydney in 2018, Esther continued to work with TPRI. Her current research focuses on production of current risk maps for tsetse flies dynamics and distribution in the Serengeti ecosystem and in western Tanzania.

Research interests

Esther’s primary research interest is on the ecology of livestock vector ticks and tsetse flies, and other vectors of livestock importance, also she is interested in the epidemiology of livestock vector-borne diseases including bovine theileriosis, animal and human African trypanosomiasis and zoonosis. Esther is also building her research interest on the potential influence of climate change on livestock vector-borne diseases. Specifically, on livestock vector, parasite and host relationships.
