Biography

I did an Undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Oxford University and a PhD at Princeton. I have a held a series of fellowships from the Wellcome trust, and am currently a Wellcome Senior Research Fellow and Reader at the University of Glasgow, where I work on the epidemiological dynamics and control of rabies.

Research interests

I work on the epidemiological dynamics and control of rabies and I combine field research with quantitative analyses, working in East Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Europe, to address fundamental and applied questions. In Tanzania, I use contact tracing and whole genome sequencing, combined with large-scale vaccination programmes and surveillance systems to understand transmission dynamics and investigate cost-effective approaches for rabies control. With international organisations and governments I use modelling and analyses to learn from control efforts, with a focus on disease elimination.
