I was born and raised in the south coast of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, a middle child of 5. I matriculated at Umkomaas Secondary School in 2011. During my schooling years, I was an active learner, participated in sports and science competitions. In 2012 I was enrolled in the science access program at the University of KwaZulu Natal. In 2013 I registered for a BSc in biochemistry and microbiology and was awarded bursary for my undergraduate studies. During the holidays I would spend time tutoring grade, 12 learners, at Vumandaba High School, which one of the disadvantaged school in the south coast, I was also part of a society which did charity work at UKZN. I graduated in 2015 and was accepted to study towards a BSc honours in biochemistry in the year 2016 and also worked as a tutor for undergraduate students. I completed my MSc in biochemistry in 2019 and am currently enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate under the Professional Development Program. I am working on the development of a Livestock combination vaccine for anthrax, botulism, and red gut at Onderstepoort Biological products.
I have always had an interest in the field of science from a young age. I am very honoured to have made it this far in the field of science and would like to continue so that that I can fulfil my dream of becoming a scientist, and also to motivate others that hard work really does pay off, and to never let where they come from determine where they are going.
I am currently interested in diseases causing bacteria animals, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium botulinum and Clostridium perfringens in particular. Additionally, bacterial vaccines, combination vaccines against, adjuvants and nano adjuvants.
Development of a combination vaccine for the prophylactic immunisation of cattle, goats and sheep against anthrax, botulism and red gut/Enterotoxemia
