Biography

Clinomics is a molecular laboratory that was established in 2011.  Its facilities are located on the outskirts of Bloemfontein, capital city of the Free State Province in the heart of central South Africa. Clinomics is an affiliate of Clinvet International and part of the Clin-group of companies. Clinvet is an accredited and award-winning global veterinary contract research organisation with more than 20 years of experience in successfully completing thousands of studies at its sites in South Africa, Morocco and the USA.  This organisational model provides Clinomics with access to reputable and distinguished multidisciplinary expertise allowing for rapid prototype development, from discovery to proof of concept.

As a leading molecular laboratory, Clinomics is providing custom applied biological solutions to clients in the animal health industry at a national and international level.  The core specialities of Clinomics include genomic analysis of a variety of sample matrices relevant to different industries; analysis of large-scale field surveys for pathogens and associated mutations; recombinant protein expression in eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems; serological assay development, validation and testing; bioinformatic analysis; pathogen detection; specialized molecular assay development; and genomic analysis of parasites.

Extensive core technology used at Clinomics includes the following:

- Automated nucleic acid isolation and liquid handling robotics,

- Conventional and real-time PCR platforms,

- Genetic analyzer for conventional sequencing and fragment analysis,

- Third generation sequencing technology and bioinformatic support on analysis

When it comes automated DNA isolation and quantitative PCR analysis, Clinomics has the capacity to handle 1500 per day.

Clinomics employs a multi-disciplinary team of laboratory scientists representing a wide range of research areas such as Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology.  Having such multi-disciplinary capacity improves efficiency in providing custom solutions to clients.  The competency of the staff component is affirmed by acquired academic qualifications at Hons, MSc and PhD levels, while some researchers also have up to 20 years of extensive experience in molecular biological method development and application.

Clinomics distinguishes itself in providing clients in the animal health industry with custom fit-for-purpose assays based on needs-analysis.
