Biography

Jayaseelan Murugaiyan is currently at SRM University AP, Andhra Pradesh, India. He received his Bachelor (Bharathiar University, India) and Master degrees (University of Madras, India) in Biochemistry. He also received Master’s degree in Applied Nutrition from National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad, India, one of the premier Institutes of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Master of Philosophy degree in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University, India. He worked for several years as lecturer in Biochemistry/Biotechnology at Indian colleges. Later, he received his PhD degree in Proteomics from University of Leipzig, Germany, while he was working as a PhD student at the department of Proteomics (renamed as  Systems Biology) , Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research-UFZ, Leipzig, Germany. He was working  as a senior scientist (Group leader - Proteomics), Institute of Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health, Centre for Infectious Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universitaet Berlin, Berlin, Germany. Currently, his research interest is in understanding antimicrobial resistance among ESKAPE pathogens and  mechanism of host specificity of pathogenic microorganisms.

Research interests

Understanding host-pathogen interactions using proteomics techniques such as two dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE), difference gel Electrophoresis (2D DIGE) and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based quantitative proteomics analysis.

Identification of immunodominant proteins of infectious micro-organisms using  Serological Proteome Analysis (SERPA) involving real-time samples, 2DE Western blotting and protein identification.

Utilisation of MALDI TOF MS in species identification of microorganisms and higher organisms.
