Biography

Venturing into the unknown and never-ending world of science has been a passion and desire of Dr. Muhammad Haris Khan’s life. Convinced by the desire to explore the relationship between humans, animals, and environmental health, Mr. Khan decided to pursue the field of veterinary sciences. He is a Veterinarian with M.Phil. in Epidemiology and Public Health.

Dr. Khan is currently affiliated with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences as a Research Assistant in the Department of Epidemiology and public health under Rapid Research Grant (RRG) in collaboration with the World Bank Group through the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan. He is working with government stakeholders to understand the epidemiology and predict the future burden of COVID-19 in Punjab, Pakistan.

In the past, Dr. Khan had done Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and was awarded two times the High achiever student award. Moreover, he was also awarded a Gold Medal for best performance during his bachelor's in Physiology.

Dr. Khan’s empathic personality and curiosity are well complemented by his natural love for science and discovery. He is a self-motivated and determined individual who actively strives for greatness through stimulating academic work and valuable practical experience

Outside of work, Dr. Khan enjoys traveling and meeting new people.

Research interests

My research interests are Antimicrobial Resistance, Phylogenetic Analysis, and Infectious Disease Epidemiology. My research project for my master’s program was on the epidemiology of Dog bite cases along with an estimation of the stray dog population as a baseline for rabies control in Lahore. Also, I have worked on a project titled “Epidemiological Disease Modeling and Molecular Surveillance of SARS-COV-2” as a Research Assistant. Furthermore, I have conducted a study on antimicrobial resistance, this work is published at an international conference. I have also worked as an assistant in a regional TCP project of The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (TCP/RAS/3708 entitled “Strengthening of Capacity Towards Rabies Elimination in Asia”). I have strong computer-related skills especially those related to statistics software like R programming, and SPSS. Currently, I am learning MEGA. Moreover, I am also a registered member of the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council.
