Biography

Fanos Tadesse Woldemariyam is a Bioscience engineer, with over ten years of progressive experience in teaching, research, laboratory head, and managing various livestock research projects in Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. I am currently working as an academic and research staff with ample experience teaching, research, adult training specialist, management of biological agents/wastes, Biohazard materials, an advocate of animal welfare, and experience in laboratory animal management. I also have experience in transporting biological agents/reagents locally and internationally. I am also a firm believer and demonstrated in my experience one health approach involving humans, animals, and the environment as the best approach to control diseases. I have prepared different documents used for the training of adults at Addis Ababa University. Among these Training manuals for biomedical waste management and biosafety biosecurity in molecular biology laboratories are some to mention. I have experience as a trainer of para-vets, Vets, and farmers on heard health management as well as a Laboratory technician and attendants on occupational health safety and biomedical waste management. I have also acquired and demonstrated experience in the planning, implementation, livestock health issues. During my ten years of experience, I served Addis Ababa university and based INGOs working in Ethiopia including, KU Leuven, VLIRUOS SPANA, Ethiopia, and the donkey sanctuary, Ethiopia. Graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, (DVM) from Addis Ababa University, College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, and PhD in bioscience engineering and a Master’s Degree in Molecular biology from KU Leuven, Belgium. Received International Certificate in Animal disease diagnosis (Foot-and-mouth disease) online learning initiative of EU-FMD and FELASA B in laboratory animal management from KU Leuven. I have first-hand experience in working with Animals, chemicals, manipulation of laboratory equipment, Capacity Development, Training/Education, data collection, supervision, sample management, Laboratory analysis( Cell culture, Virology, Immunology, Bacteriology, Molecular biology, Mass spec and Cloning techniques. Literature review, and publication. Collaborative research, Quality Assurance, Staff Management, and Monitoring and Evaluation. I have developed skills related to working under pressure, time management, effective decision making & team management. My skills have broadened through training every time and have a strong aspiration to be one of the change agent. I am interested in identifying pathogens to their molecular level there by development  of  diagnostic kit and protective vaccines. The pathogen I am interested are of  mainly affecting animals and humans. In addition I do have a great interest to work on pathogen discovery (mainly of virus) from wild animals such as Bats and  primates.
