Biography

 Dr. Tendai Makwikwi is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria in South Africa. Dr. Tendai Makwikwi was born in Zimbabwe. He is qualified with a PhD in Molecular Immunology and his research interests are in parasitology, vaccinology, immunology, biochemistry, biotechnology and infectious diseases. He has published work in infectious diseases. He has been involved in research on the immune responses elicited after natural infections as well as after vaccination with different vaccines. He has been involved in National projects and duties involving vaccination and immunization programs in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare in Zimbabwe. Dr. Tendai Makwikwi was a scientific advisor in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare. The aim being to help in the research and development of new vaccines and strengthening of immunization programs in Zimbabwe. Dr Tendai Makwikwi taught on the courses in Immunology, Vaccinology, Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases. He supervised research work for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of immunology and vaccinology. The aim of the research work is to develop professionals who have a desire to contribute to reducing mortality and improving health through vaccination, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Dr Tendai Makwikwi is an active member of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative (AVMI) which has a mission of promoting the establishment of sustainable human vaccine manufacturing capacity in Africa. He is also a member of the Middle East, Eurasia and Africa Influenza Stakeholders Network (ME’NA-ISN) and the South African Immunology Society (SAIS).

Research interests

 

A doctor interested in the development of Africa in the field of medicine, biopharmaceuticals, food and medical-care devices (lateral flow devices). My top skills are in lecturing, CRISPR technology, immunochemical techniques, immunoassay development, antibody conjugation, protein purification, rapid kits design, cell cultures, data analysis among others.
