Biography
I am Professor of epidemiology at Addis Ababa University, Aklilu Lemma Institute of Pathobiology (ALIPB) and former and founding academic and research vice president of Bule Hora University (2011-2017). Currently, deputy director and leading TB and other research projects at ALIPB-AAU and supervising 7 PhD students. My research and field work experiences is focus on public health, epidemiology of zoonotic diseases in pastoralists and their livestock, specifically on rabies, brucellosis, tuberculosis and other zoonosis using one health approaches. Beyond professional expertise, I am from mobile pastoralist community in South Oromia region of Ethiopia. I have exercised pastoralists’ life in my pre-education time as part of my family livelihood to herd calves and small ruminants and later on work as the professional and development expert in South Oromia and Ethiopian Somali Pastoral Regions. I taught varies veterinary courses for DVM students at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and veterinary public health and advanced one health courses at Addis Ababa University College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture. Coordinated Pastoral Livestock Production and Health sector of Borana Low Land Pastoral Development Project of GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) in Southern Ethiopia. Worked as coordinator for the College Community Based Education Program at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Moreover, served as focal person for Resilient African Network, Horn of Africa RILab program, and coordinator for National Brucellosis, Survey, CDC Project representing Bule Hora University. Supervised 8 PhD and 5 M.Sc students at AAU and other universities. Moreover, serving and served as an external examiner for MSc and PhD students in different Ethiopian universities. Published more than 60 peer reviewed scientific articles in reputable journals. Research interests
My research and field work experiences is focus on public health, epidemiology of zoonotic diseases in pastoralists and their livestock, specifically on rabies, brucellosis, tuberculosis , zoonosis and epizootic lymphangitis using one health approaches.
