Biography
I am an immunologist focused on understanding the role of B-cells and antibodies during tropical infections, such as malaria, trypanosomiasis, dirofilariasis, and Zika viral disease, among others. I hold a PhD from the New York University School of Medicine and was a postdoctoral scientist at Weill Cornell Medicine/ Hospital for Special Surgery. Currently, I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor at CUNY New York City College of Technology (City Tech), where I have both teaching and research responsibilities. I am also a passionate bilingual individual interested in service and mentorship.
Research interests
My research program is focused on the area of immunology, specifically in understanding the role and mechanisms of autoimmunity during infection, particularly malarial infection and other tropical infections. Specifically, we work on studying the roles of autoantibodies and B-cells during these infections and their potential as biomarkers of protection or pathology . Most of these projects are in collaboration with New York University and collaborators from Colombia and Costa Rica.
