Biography
Dr. Ismail Zeb is an Assistant Professor at the University of Swat, Pakistan, with a Ph.D. in Zoology. His research focuses on ticks, tick-borne pathogens, and vector-borne diseases, combining molecular biology, immunology, and spatial epidemiology. He has international research experience in Brazil on anti-tick vaccine development and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. His future work aims at developing vaccines and sustainable control strategies against ticks and associated pathogens.
Research interests
My research focuses on the molecular and morphological identification of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, with particular interest in their epidemiology, ecology, and control. My work integrates molecular biology, immunology, and GIS-based spatial analysis to understand vector–pathogen–host interactions. Especially interested in vaccine development against ticks and tick-borne diseases, antigen discovery, and molecular targets for immunoprophylaxis. Additionally, my research explores the genetic diversity of parasites, climate–disease interactions, and the use of bioinformatics and spatiotemporal modeling to design sustainable control strategies for vector-borne diseases affecting both humans and animals. Furthermore, i am working with my students on the molecular characterization of blood borne pathogens, in cattle and humans.
Projects you're working on
I am currently working on the molecular and morphological characterization of ticks infesting poultry, domestic fowls, and wild birds. The project focuses on identifying tick species and their associated pathogens using advanced molecular tools, with the broader goal of understanding tick diversity, pathogen transmission, and developing effective control strategies, including vaccine targets.
