Biography
Professor Pwaveno H. Bamaiyi is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of veterinary science. He currently serves as a professor and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Jos, Nigeria. Education and Academic Career: Professor Bamaiyi's educational journey began at Pare Primary School and Sakato (Villanova) Government Secondary School in Nigeria. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Maiduguri in 1997/98. He went on to pursue a Master of Science in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 2004. He completed his Ph.D. in Public Health and Epidemiology at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2014. Prior to his current position at the University of Jos, he held various academic roles, including Lecturer at Adamawa State University, Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, and Associate Professor at Kampala International University in Uganda. Research and Expertise: His research interests are focused on Public Health Microbiology and Food Safety. He has a specific interest in research on brucellosis and Cryptosporidiosis. Professor Bamaiyi has been involved in significant research projects, including the development of a DNA-based vaccine against small ruminant brucellosis in Nigeria and research on food security and safety. He is the editor-in-chief of the Special Journal of Public Health and has authored numerous publications in various scientific journals. His work also includes the use of the Spatiotemporal Epidemiologic Modeler (STEM) software for tracking, managing, and controlling infectious disease outbreaks in both human and animal populations. Current Research: Development of DNA-Based Vaccine Against Small Ruminant Brucellosis in Nigeria. This is a Nigerian Government Tertiary Education Tax Fund (TETFund) funded project that commenced in 2023. Brucella melitensis isolated have been isolated and vaccine candidate are being developed. Professor Pwaveno H. Bamaiyi is the Principal Investigator for this Research Project. Other members of the team include: Dr. Polycarp Tanko, Dr. Asinamai Bitrus, Dr. Bilkisu Kaltungo, Dr. Emmanuel Obishakin and Dr. Elisha Joseph.
