Biography

Paola is veterinarian and PhD in Biotechnology at the National University of Colombia, with laureate doctoral thesis. She is Aquaculture Specialist at the Universidad de los Llanos. She has had training in veterinary anatomopathology at the National University of Colombia, UCDavis, University of Purdue and University of Georgia (US) and in molecular biology at the Molecular Medicine Institute of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). She has been a professor at the National University and UPTC and Veterinary Pathologist of Veterinary National Diagnostic Laboratory (ICA) in Colombia. For 11 years she has been a founding partner of CORPAVET and two years ago of MolecularVet SAS, her companies dedicated to research and diagnose animal diseases. She is co-author of books, chapter of book and articles in health and pathology, mainly on fish.  She has a registered patent of "Glycoinhibitors of adhesion of Streptococcus in fish". She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Latin Comparative Pathology Group of the Davis-Thompson Foundation for Advancement of Veterinary and Comparative Pathology and of the Colombian Network of Women Scientists.

 

Research interests

Fish health; infectious diseases; veterinary anatomic pathology and biotechnology of animal health. Mainly interactions host-pathogen to find sustainable, ecological and efficient mechanism to prevent diseases in fish
