Biography

Dr. Goodhead Okechukwu O. Uchendu PhD is an ardent CHRISTIAN MAN, a Life Strategist/Coach and dynamic youth leader. This Nigerian-born entrepreneur and academic attributes his successes to his strong christian family background. Academically, Dr. Goodhead holds Higher National Diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry; Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business Management; Doctor of Veterinary Medicine i Veterinary Medicine; Master of Science in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine; Project Management in HIV Program Management and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Animal and Veterinary Sciences, in addition to other certificates.

Dr. Goodhead rose in civil service from the rank of Technologist I, Level 8 to Chief Veterinary Officer, level 14 at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Nigeria, Nsukka within ten years. By 2013, he was appointed Ag. Coordinator, Youth Friendly Centre, Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Under his leadership, the Centre attracted grants from industry stakeholders to empowered many Nigerian youths in various SMEs. He’s published academic, circular and Christian articles and books and has received academic and community development recognition awards.

In his PhD work Dr. Goodhead studied the prevalence, risk factors and socioeconomic effects of Taenia saginata/cysticercosis (Beef measles) on cattle farmers in Botswana and identification of immunogenic protein antigens. Through a one-dimensional electrophoresis using Sodium dodecyl sulphate Polyacrylamide electrophoresis (SD-PAGE)  Taenia saginata/cysticercosis proteins were profiled using whole cysts and cysts fluid.  Nineteen (19) proteins with molecular weights ranging from 4 to 245kDa were identified. Immunoblotting under reducing conditions, yielded 8 immunogenic proteins ranging from 14 to 245kDa.

As part of his postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Goodhead is trying to purify and characterise these identified 8 immunogenic. These are essential inputs in vaccine and ante-mortem test kit development. It is projected that an efficient test kit and vaccine in Botswana will save about P500 million annually (1USD = P11.24), which is currently lost to bovine cysticercosis
