Biography

Ana Filipe is a Research Fellow at the CVR, where she manages the Virus Sequencing Facility. She is responsible for providing resources and expertise to support research needs for high-throughput genomics and transcriptomics of viruses and viral systems. Her research interests centre on the development of novel sequencing approaches to study viruses and virus-host interactions.
Previously, Ana was a Research Scientist at the CVR where she worked on molecular aspects of the interaction between Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and host cells. At a later stage, her research focus on HCV was extended to understanding viral resistance in the context of new drug treatments, using next-generation sequencing methods. This work led to the implementation of an improved
capture-based technology to sequence HCV from plasma samples. Ana has a PhD in Pharmaceutics, specifically in gene therapy for vascular diseases, where she developed targeted nanovesicles for the delivery of therapeutic genes.

Research interests

New high-throughput sequencing technologies applied to viral genomics; single cell sequencing; multiomic approaches to understand viral infections.
