Dr. Bouna Diop, a national from Senegal, is leading the Joint FAO/OIE Secretariat for the Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) Global Eradication Programme established in Rome since April 2016.

He joined FAO in October 2007 to coordinate the Avian Influenza Integrated National Action Program implemented in collaboration with the World Bank, OIE, WHO and AU-IBAR. From January 2010 to March 2016, he was the Regional Manager of the FAO Emergency Centre for Transboundary animal diseases (ECTAD) for Eastern Africa and positioned in Nairobi, Kenya.

Prior to joining the FAO, Dr Diop worked for AU-IBAR (African Union-Inter African Bureau for Animal Resources) as Regional Coordinator of the Pan African Program for the Control of Epizootics (PACE) for Western and Central Africa from December 2000 to July 2007.

He started his career in 1985 in Senegal and has held different positions at provincial and central levels. From 1991 to 2000, he served as the National Coordinator for PARC (Pan African Campaign for Rinderpest Eradication) and Deputy Director of the Livestock Department of Senegal.

He’s an OIE certificated expert for the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway. Dr. Diop was recipient in March 1988 of the Senegal Ordre du Merite award and in June 2011 of the FAO award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme.
