Biography

I am an Associate Professor of parasitology and at the University of Nairobi. I have sixteen (16) years’ experience in teaching at the university and twenty-five (25) years in conducting research on vector-borne diseases. In particular my research areas has mainly focused on tick and tick-borne diseases (TTBD) of livestock. I have conducted research on the development and validation of of molecular markers for use in pathogen disease diagnostics and parasite characterization, development and validation of immuno-diagnostic assays for disease surveillance and in epidemiological studies of TTBD. I have also been involved in the validation of anti-tick vaccines based on identified and characterized tick antigens under control trials. In addition, I also have a keen interest in Neglected Tropical Diseases, Zoonosis and a One Health approach to achieveiving optimal public health outcomes. I am very personate about training the next generation of African Scientists and conducting research in developing countries.
