Biography

Esayas Gelaye received his DVM degree from the faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), specialized in Medical Biotechnology from Wageningen University (The Netherlands), and PhD in Biotechnology/Virology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria) under the facilities of the joint division of FAO/IAEA-APHL (Austria). Currently he is heading the Research and Development Directorate of the National Veterinary Institute (NVI) of Ethiopia. His current research focused on isolation and genetic characterization of animal pathogens, developing diagnostic kit, improving the existing vaccines produced in the NVI and developing safe and effective vaccines using novel techniques for the prevention and control of emerging and re-emerging animal and zoonotic diseases.
