Biography
Biography of EGBUNU, Zacharia Kadiayeno EGBUNU, Zacharia Kadiayeno is an adept and motivated scientist currently pursuing a PhD in vaccinology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, where his doctoral research focuses on bioinformatics-driven immunoinformatics prediction of immunological epitopes for vaccine development against avian influenza diseases, with particular emphasis on poultry health and avian influenza. This advanced work marks the latest chapter in his distinguished academic and professional journey in the life sciences. He holds a bachelor’s degree in medical microbiology and a Master of Technology in Medical Microbiology , complemented by a professional foundation in Medical Laboratory Science from the Federal School of Medical Laboratory Science, West Africa, Nigeria. His early career was shaped by extensive training and experience in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, where he played a pivotal role in advancing laboratory practices and contributing to the management of infectious diseases. Currently serving as a lecturer and a researcher at a prestigious federal institution of learning in Nigeria, EGBUNU is actively engaged in cutting-edge research in veterinary vaccinology and immunology with special interest in bioinformatics and biomolecular analysis in vaccine development. In addition, his research interest extends to bridging traditional microbiology with modern approaches in antimicrobial therapeutics, particularly in investigating plant-derived phytochemical compounds as alternative antimicrobial agents to combat microbial infections and exploring resistance mechanisms. Throughout his career, he has published scholarly articles in reputable scientific journals, making significant contributions to the growing body of knowledge in infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapy, and vaccine development against emerging avian diseases. His professional interests reflect a commitment not only to scientific discovery and innovation but also to mentorship and the training of future generations of scientists. By joining the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), Nigeria Society for Microbiology (NSM), and the Nigeria Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, among other professional scientific bodies, EGBUNU aims to collaborate with fellow researchers and broaden his work in vaccinology, bioinformatics, and antimicrobial therapies to address emerging global health challenges in avian disease prevention and control.
