Poultry production: vaccination challenges

In the latest discussion in the One Health Poultry Hub Roadmap series, we invite you to discuss with us why millions of animals continue to die from vaccine preventable diseases and what that means for animal and human welfare.

Despite huge advances in veterinary health and vaccine development, in many places, especially in low- and middle-income countries, impacts remain to be felt. What are the implications for animal and human welfare? Are there opportunities for new vaccine development? What are the current unmet needs when it comes to vaccines? Join our panellists in a robust discussion covering science, ethics and opportunities for positive change moving forward.

The panellists are:

• Dr Mike Francis, Managing Director of BioVacc Consulting and Board member of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN).
• Dr Rebecca Doyle, Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences, and Researcher at the Animal Welfare Science Centre, University of Melbourne.

The session will be moderated by Professor Robyn Alders, Global Health Programme, Chatham House, UK.

About the Roadmap series

This series of discussions focuses on identifying and tackling key issues underpinning sustainable development from the perspective of one of the world’s most important industry contributors to nutrition security: the poultry industry.

Through robust exchanges between panellists and active audience engagement, we will develop a One Health Roadmap that seeks a destination where economic, social and environmental sustainability and justice are key indicators of success. We aim to weave together diverse One Health threads with the aim of identifying practical and equitable approaches to health security, food security and food systems, and justice in human, animal, and environmental health.
