Communicating Research to Non-Specialist Audiences (2023)
This course invites participants from around the globe to explore the fundamentals of communicating to stakeholders outside of research and academia by transforming complex ideas into accessible and engaging narratives. First, we show participants how to identify and segment their audiences, outline communication goals, and tailor messages appropriately for different stakeholders. We then cover how to produce and distribute messages through writing for various forms of media including websites, newsletters, and social media. This course highlights tips for written and visual materials as well as presentations. We highly recommend this course to scientists that are interested in promoting their research beyond academia to the public, press, industry and other stakeholders.
