About the role

As R&D Director, you will provide scientific, technical, and strategic leadership across vaccine discovery, development, and lifecycle management. You will oversee multidisciplinary R&D teams and collaborate closely with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Business Leadership to translate innovation into successful veterinary vaccine products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute MEVAC’s R&D strategy for veterinary vaccines, aligned with business and regulatory objectives
  • Lead genetically modified, recombinant, and novel vaccine platform projects from concept through commercialization
  • Oversee vaccine development activities including:
  • Antigen design and molecular biology
  • Cell culture, fermentation, and expression systems
  • Upstream & downstream process development
  • Preclinical and clinical development
  • Manage and mentor cross‑functional R&D teams (scientists, project leaders, and technical experts)
  • Ensure compliance with international regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, OIE, EMA, USDA, local authorities)
  • Drive technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies in vaccine platforms and biotechnologies
  • Build external collaborations with academic institutions, CROs, and technology partners
  • Support intellectual property strategy, scientific publications, and technical dossiers

Required Qualifications

  • PhD (preferred) or MSc in Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in veterinary vaccine R&D
  • Proven hands-on experience with:
  • Genetically Modified Vaccines
  • Recombinant Vaccines
  • Modern vaccine platforms (viral vectors, subunit vaccines, etc.)
  • Strong track record of leading vaccine development projects to successful outcomes
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements for veterinary biologics
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary scientific teams
  • Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Familiarity with global veterinary health trends and market needs
