PhD vacancies: using AI to strengthen disease preparedness

Wageningen Bioveterinary Research is looking for curious and motivated PhD candidates who want to apply artificial intelligence to tackle infectious diseases from a One Health perspective. Our institute currently offers two PhD positions focused on innovative, AI-driven research with real-world impact.

PhD research A:

AI models for disease resilience, susceptibility and vaccine efficacy
This PhD project focuses on developing AI models that integrate data from sensors, biomarkers and animal behaviour. The aim is to better understand how animals respond to infections and vaccination, and to predict disease resilience and susceptibility in livestock. This research supports healthier animals and more sustainable farming systems.

PhD research B:

AI models to identify disease correlates of pathogens
This PhD centres on AI-based analysis of pathogen data, combining genomic, proteomic and structural information. The project aims to identify key disease correlates and potential targets for vaccines and diagnostics, linking computational predictions with experimental validation.
