Principal Research Scientist - African Swine Fever Virus
VIDO is seeking an outstanding scientist to join its team of principal investigators and lead an independent, externally funded, and competitive research program in the field of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV).
Position Summary
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing our research initiatives and developing an innovative vaccine to prevent and control African Swine Fever virus outbreaks. The successful candidate will develop and lead a globally competitive, externally funded, research program focused on understanding ASFV biology, mechanisms of infection and immune response, develop and evaluate vaccines.
The successful candidate will be expected to recruit and supervise postgraduate trainees and technicians, as well as contribute to knowledge transfer, community, and stakeholder engagement. Qualifications
- Applicants must have a PhD and/or DVM/MD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and a proven record of contributions in ASFV research.
- Relevant research experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of mechanisms of host-viral interactions and research on vaccine development evidenced by peer-reviewed publications is essential.
- Demonstrated success in obtaining external research funding and in supervision of trainees is highly desirable.
- Effective organizational, time management skills, and prioritization skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Applicants must have the ability to work effectively as members of consortia or larger networks.
