The International Veterinary Vaccinology Network will strengthen links between academia and industry to accelerate vaccine development using £600,000 of additional funding from The Industry Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).

The ISCF aims to bring together researchers and industry to transform basic research into deployment of products in the field. One objective of the ISCF is to accelerate innovative healthcare and medicines, for example, through vaccine development and manufacturing.

The International Veterinary Vaccinology Network are passionate about developing vaccines to protect against livestock and zoonotic diseases.

The additional funding from the ISCF will fund the following Network activities:

  • Recruitment of an Industrial Liaison Officer to provide a link between academic and industrial partners involved in veterinary vaccine development, both in the UK and internationally
  • Formation of a veterinary vaccinology database to give greater visibility to the vaccine development resources that are available to academics and industrial partners worldwide
  • Funding of pump-priming projects with a strong industrial component

The International Veterinary Vaccinology Network is one of five Networks funded through the MRC/BBSRC GCRF Networks in Vaccine R&D initiative.

Dr Martin Broadstock, Programme Manager for Immunology at the MRC, said: “Our goal through the MRC/BBSRC Networks is to accelerate vaccine R&D and the additional ISCF investment will help achieve this by supporting academics and industry partners to work together more closely.”
